Szymon Naściszewski is a Polish conductor and Head of Orchestra at the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk. He began his career as a violinist before completing his conducting studies with Prof. Łukasz Borowicz at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków. He is a two-time recipient of the “Conductor-in-Residence” programme of Poland’s National Institute of Music and Dance.
In June 2025, he won the competition for the position of Assistant Conductor at Wrocław Opera, and in March 2026, the competition for the position of Head of Orchestra at the Baltic Opera in Gdańsk.
In the 2026/27 season, Szymon Naściszewski will make debuts at several major Polish concert halls and opera houses. At the Baltic Opera, he will conduct Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Verdi’s Rigoletto and Aida, and Moniuszko’s The Haunted Manor. He will also appear with the Cavatina Philharmonic Orchestra, the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic and the Poznań Philharmonic during the Poznań Musical Spring Festival. He will return to Wrocław Opera to conduct Massenet’s Don Quichotte.
He has gained experience as an assistant to Łukasz Borowicz, Paul McCreesh, Christoph Eschenbach, Antonino Fogliani, Patrick Fournillier, Sascha Goetzel, José Miguel Pérez-Sierra, Wojciech Rajski, Michał Klauza, Tomasz Tokarczyk and Piotr Sułkowski.
He has conducted concerts and opera performances at Wrocław Opera, the Silesian Opera in Bytom and Kraków Opera, as well as with the Kraków Philharmonic, Poznań Philharmonic, Szczecin Philharmonic, Opole Philharmonic and Subcarpathian Philharmonic. He has also worked with the Cavatina Philharmonic Orchestra, Polish Chamber Philharmonic Sopot, Elbląg Chamber Orchestra and Tarnów Chamber Orchestra.
He represented Poland at the 11th Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors in Katowice and at the International Kodály Conducting Competition in Debrecen. He has participated in masterclasses and artistic projects including the NOSPR Masterclass led by Marin Alsop and the Royal Opera Festival.
In October 2025, he assisted Christoph Eschenbach during the closing concert of the Wratislavia Cantans Festival, featuring Act III of Wagner’s Parsifal with René Pape, Nikolai Schukoff and Tomasz Konieczny, the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic and Kaunas State Choir.
His repertoire ranges from Baroque music to contemporary works. In 2023, he conducted the world premiere of Krzysztof Meyer’s Vivat Pro Sinfonika!, commissioned by the Poznań Philharmonic to mark the 55th anniversary of Pro Sinfonika.
His background as a violinist—soloist, concertmaster, chamber musician and orchestral player—remains an important point of reference in his work as a conductor. He graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where he studied violin with Jakub Jakowicz, and from the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, where he studied with Adam Kostecki.
As a violinist, he has collaborated with ensembles including Sinfonia Varsovia, the Kraków Philharmonic and the NFM Leopoldinum. These experiences have shaped his sensitivity to orchestral sound, his sense of musical narrative and his natural rapport with musicians.
